Over the weekend while doing research for another blog I ran across a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.

Our success comes not so much from what we do our job , but how well we do it our passion for our job. It also illustrates that regardless of your job or your position on the company ladder, you can be successful if you have passion for your work.

Passion Is Important You may ask how can you consider a street sweeper as being successful. I am sure the street sweeper would rather be a CEO, but at this point in time his job is a street sweeper. He is a street sweeper, but each day he goes to work giving it his all to be the best street sweeper he can be.

He is passionate about being the best that he can at what he does. This makes him successful at his job. Regardless of your current job bringing passion to your work can lay a foundation for success. Not just success in your current job, but success for every rung you want to take up the company ladder.

You may hate your job now, but the attitude you take towards it can play a pivotal role in your career. Passion is an emotion that comes from within you. It is your enthusiasm, your zeal, your drive and your motivation. You want to apply all of your skills and all of your energy into your work. Passion does not go unnoticed. People will see how well you do your job and your attitude towards it. They will notice your drive and your motivation and consider how you would do in another position.

Do you look forward to Monday? I think this quote is very accurate because we often have to face difficulties to demonstrate who we really are and discover our true potential. Our character is a reflection of the moral and mental qualities that make us distinctive to everybody else. By Paul Tough.

Personally, think this is the single most important thing. Yes, all the so called secrets do play a part, but success or failure is all about attitude. The end result is only a part of the journey and our goals keep changing.

Our goals, success criteria and personality is on a constant road of change and we can only focus on growing from one strength to another. But, it means that you will focus on resolving the ones that are important to you and ignore the ones which are not. All this however, needs to be done with your consciousness and knowledge. After all, it is in these moments of decision making where your true results stem from.

If you look at all your experiences in life so far — it is a constant feedback look. True, your goals have changed. It is also true that you have succeeded in some goals and failed in some others. But the mental, emotional journey is quite the same. I refuse to accept that success or failure is one singular event which defines everything. If you're a one try and you're finished type of person, it doesn't matter how smart you are, you won't succeed.

And what happens if you're one of those people who has never failed? Never had to face disappointment and pick yourself up by your own bootstraps? It can be disasterous.

But, to succeed you must be able to fail and recover from failure. That means you must be willing to take risks, listen to others, and admit where you could improve. Arguing over a performance appraisal instead of listening to what your boss is trying to tell you are key indicators of someone who is unwilling to learn.

Not that all bosses' assessments are accurate, but those appraisals tell you what your boss is looking for. Disregard that at your own peril.

Perhaps even those of us who are long finished with school can learn something from people who are trying to educate our children. Photo by aussiegall , Flickr cc 2.
