Next, slide the ladder plugs back onto the lift cord and secure with knots at the end of each cord. Don't worry about the excess cord. Raise your blinds and the extra slack will be alleviated. There are two cords you need to know about. Running through the center of each slat is a thicker cord called the lift cord. The second cord called the ladder cord , weaves around each slat and runs along the front and back of the blinds. Pry the plugs out of the bottom rail with a flat head screwdriver. This will release the string ladders and reveal the knotted lift cord.
Untie the knot. Slide off the bottom rail plugs and set aside. Look at your window sill and make note of the desired new length of your blinds. Insert each of the lift cords through the bottom rail hole and tie a knot. Make sure that the lift cords are even and that the bottom rail hangs straight. You may have to adjust the position of the knot to achieve the desired length to your blinds.
Do not try to adjust the length by pulling on the lift cord. Replace the bottom rail plugs back into the holes on the bottom of the bottom rail. Use a rubber mallet or hammer to keep from marking the plugs.
